Key Stage 4 Science
KS4 Science is aimed at inspiring and motivating students whether they choose to continue their studies further in Science at A Level or College or not. With this in mind we offer varied curriculum pathways including OCR Double Award GCSE Science, OCR GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics and BTEC Applied Science. During Year 9 students start their KS4 studies in one of these options. Our aim is for every student to enjoy all aspects of science and to fulfil their true potential.
Homework is set on a weekly basis and students have 9 lessons per fortnight unless they have chosen the sciences as an option subject (GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics) in which case they have 14 lessons per fortnight.
Double Award GCSE courses are externally assessed throughout Year 10 and 11 with examinations in January and June as well as controlled assessments carried out in lessons. GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics are assessed in a similar manner although only sit exernal examinations in June of Year 10 and 11. Students studying BTEC Applied Science are continually assessed throughout the two years through completing assignments marked and internally verified by their teachers.
